Cleaned Up Cozy Comfort Foods
What a year it has been! Challenging, exhausting and chaotic! These times of stress and uncertainty somestimes push us to seek solace in food. Quarantining and social distancing have resulted in feel good nostalgic comfort foods making a comeback. Unfortunately, this sometimes means more processed, high fat and high sugar foods. While we don’t want to deprive ourselves of small joys that comfort foods can bring us, now more then ever we need to practice self care and monitor what we put in our bodies. It is important for our mental and physical health to keep up with a healthy routine.
For this reason I decided to make a new post featuring classic comfort foods that are all cleaned up. These recipes I have come up with are all full of healthy, clean ingredients, but they also have that hearty, nourishing, feel good essence. You can feel great about serving them to your family and friends.
First up is my Biscuit Drop Chicken Pot Pie. It is loaded with vegetables and protein. The biscuit drop topping is made of wholesome, real food ingredients. And you will love that classic chicken pot pie flavor that you enjoyed as a kid. Next I serve my The Best Chicken Vegetable Curry. It’s another high protein dish, loaded with veggies. The flavor profile is unique and savory. This aromatic dish is a souce of detoxifying properties that will leave you wanting more. Well you can’t talk about comfort foods without chilli, so I’ve come up with a simple chili and cornbread combination recipe, my Cornbread Skillet Chili. It is a clean and easy recipe that will make quite the unique presentation. And finally I serve up my version of Bison Bourquignon. I use lean meat and lighter ingredients to replace Julie Child’s richer “Boeuf” version. I think you’ll like it!
Real food, real ingredients, and satisfying flavor. Comfort foods are meant to make us feel good by tapping into good memories. With these dishes you can enjoy some without derailing your health!
Enjoy!

Susan
P.S. Don’t forget to check out my Brain Booster Smoothie. It fits right in with the comfort foods, full of blueberries, greens and nuts. Yum!
